Too many new MB in black and white paint on the street?

All the C and E class in my neck of wood are in black and white 99% of the time. Do you think most people are "stingy" to pay the additional cost of metallic paint so they have to settle for the "no charge" white and black? Will metallic paint get more popular if there's no additional charge?

I think it's more a matter of taste and trends. Black Mercedes have always been hugely popular, and white became a popular color several years ago and remains so in some areas. Personally I prefer non-metallic paint on cars, the paint looks "deeper" since there are no surface flakes to reflect light at the surface.

Black is the #1 seller and silver is #2. Although I like white cars in general, I have seen very few Mercedes that look good with that color. I'm surprised that you are seeing so many of them.

Since I saw this thread I've been paying special attention in my area (Central Florida). It seems white ones are indeed plentiful, but black ones are pretty rare. It appears white ones are followed by lighter metallic tones (champagne, silver) in popularity.

I guess that being in Florida would account for the color choice. I'm in NorCal but will be moving to Deland. I think I will sell my black 300SL and get a coupe with good AC and maybe silver or grey so the car doesn't get to hot. I still love a black MB, but being cool beats being cool. ;>)

Good point about geographic location. I have always noticed that in NYC the MB's are almost 100% black, with a few blue sneaking in. In the UK blue is a highly popular choice, much more than anywhere else. In Florida, I see tons of white MB's, California oddly few white until the trend picked up, and in most other cities, black and silver rule. Silver is the traditional Mercedes-Benz "color" much like Ferrari is red, Jaguar is green, and so on, which accounts for it's high ranking.

I think dealers have big chunk of blame for that. They bring the car they think will be in highest demand and sure they can be wrong.
A month ago I saw pretty new C class in violet.... yes violet.... that was huge surprise and I followed it for some time trying figure out if the owner had it repainted, but the paint did look Mercedes quality. So as rare the color was, the owner look good in it and she had matching wardrobe.
