And I love it even more when someone comes here and doesn't read the original post. Of course, when that someone is a Polak, that's to be expected. He is showing a CEL and he did read the codes and came up with P0442, which is a leak in the evaporation control system. What cats know or care about evaporation control is beyond me (probably because I'm not a Polak).
P0442 means one or more of the following:
1) loose or improperly affixed gas cap
2) non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory)
3) small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
4) other small leak in the evap system
5) faulty vent o-ring
With a P0442, remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. Otherwise, replace the gas cap
, and inspect the evap system for cuts or holes in tubes and hoses, etc..
If not the gas cap, also try: charcoal canister replacement & filler tube replacement. It's not unusual for the fuel filler tube to get a leak that maybe he missed seeing.
Sometimes it's hard to chase down; the best way is to smoke test the system to find the leak.......
