Spilled tea into console & now tranny issues! HELP appreciated!!

I sold a 2000 c230k to my siter last year with 115k on it. I bought it the previous year and drove it about 15k and put new tires & brakes on it. Had no problems whatsoever. Too small for me Im 6'5" 275, so I sold it to my sister and upgraded to a Eclass. Bottom line she has driven it about a year and now she is experiencing some issues. First thing is that tea was spilled into console, and car got stuck in park. She took things apart and it was like syrup and very sticky, but she is able to move into gear by sticking a screwdriver down into the bypass hole or whatever. Ever since the tea got spilled she is telling me that the car is having issues getting into drive--the symptoms are the car is having a challenge getting going past like 30-40mph, and it takes along time for her to build up to like 65 mph, once there it is fine, but she says the rpms are revving high when in lower gears. Ive read on the forums about the MAF sensor, but my ?? is could the tea being spilled into the console have caused electrical issues and affected these tranny symptoms-- shifting/high rev etc. What would you suggest we do?? She is bringing it today too a guy who is going to clean out the console and hopefully get that fixed so where she doesnt have to use the bypass to get the car into gear and out of park etc. But im worried about what she has told me about the way the tranny is acting!!! Should we consider a tranny maintenance or should we just take it to a Benz dealership and have them diagnose the problem. Anyway to diagnose the issues without taking car to Mbenz where they charge so much? Feedback greatly appreciated!!!

She should switch to Earl Grey with no sugar, nowhere near as sticky, thus less harmful to the transmission.

Some circuit boards can be washed with distillate water and followed by contact cleaner, but several members ended up replacing the gear shifter board. From my memory that makes about $1400 for that cup of tea.
Don't look for other problems, when you have one in front of your eyes. Fix that one and then worry if something else comes.
Good luck.

+1, if she has been putting it in gear and driving in this way for some time there may be further damage, but correct the cause first, any fluid in this area will cause serious problems.
