My Mercedes 1993 400e Won't Start - Previously running fine
Hoping someone might be able to help or provide some insight.
1993 Mercedes 400e
Mileage: 162K miles
Condition: Very good
I was driving my car the other day for about 15 minutes, then suddenly the car started making a loud whirring noise from the engine. It sounded to me like a belt was loose. When I opened the hood as the car was running, the sound seemed to be coming from near the belt just behind the fans behind the front grill. Turning off the car made the sound stop. The belt did not feel slack when pressed.
A few hours later I had to move the car, it drove fine, but the noise continued. About 5 minutes later, the noise went away entirely. However, I also noticed that my entire air/heat system was no longer working (I had it on about 2 minutes before that). Pushing the buttons didn't do anything. I parked. Tried to turn the car back on a minute later, and it won't start at all. Turning the ignition key makes the lights on the dashboard come on for a sec, but the motor doesn't sound like it's trying to start. It's quiet.
Any ideas about what may be going on?
Thanks in advance for help. I'm lost here.
