I understand that, the web site puts the link to the data card to an position and one may have disable pop-up windows which the site is using for the data card.

Perhaps my eyes are too old but I did not find the build date from the data card that the Russian site gave, I did not find it even from the official EPC but another source states 04/03/1990 (US date format).

Some unexplained option codes are:
300 storage box in front tray
301 storage box in the rear
491 US version
639 ?

Are you referring to the WDBCA45E5LA544061 car? You must be using some local (MBUSA?) database?

These build dates are often recorded a bit differently and even modified at some points. Like my 212 first had one build date in the MB database which was referring to the actual build date at the factory but when the car was picked up from the factory 8 dates later, gradually all databases got this date inserted but it took some time before EPC was updated to this same date.

I'm not an insider, you probably are and can better explain the difference but if an MB server gives an earlier date than another MB server, I would consider the earliest one being closer to the true build date, if not the real one. Of course this does not matter a lot like the date the car is taken into use, except in some cases the exact correct date is important for correct spare part identification.

Would you mind explaining more about your source? Attached a screen-shot from the source I'm using.

Thanks!! DB & Dookie

I appreciate your time and effort to get me the information. I like to have all the info I can on the car because I plan on keeping her a long while, You never known what you may need or when you may need it. I also plan on recording everything done while in my possession.

Sorry I was unable to reply sooner but I was on the road all day yesterday.

Thanks again, Bob

I am based in the USA, but I'm using a worldwide database.

When the factory issues a work order for a car to be built it starts the FDOK (final documentation) process. It is the start of the process that determines the date that will go on the the build date section of the FDOK. Doing this helps things stay sorted out when it comes to determining line changes to parts for creation of EPC text later on.

Of course this does not matter a lot like the date the car is taken into use, except in some cases the exact correct date is important for correct spare part identification.

The cut for early or late parts specification is based on the FDOK and accesses the build date or the vin/engine/transmission information.

This is getting off-topic but I would be interested knowing where you got this different build date.

I'm using world wide EPC from MB (provided by Snap-on) but EPC did not give any build date for this car. The second source was TIPS and my understanding is that TIPS data is equal to that of FDOK but I got a different build date from the one you posted. Are you using VeDoc or some other dealer specific service?

Are we both talking about the same car: WDBCA45E5LA544061.

Although the EPC is tied to the FDOK for info, it is general in scope and doesn't alot for build date. The only way I know of tying into actual vehicle history is to look directly at the FDOK or run the closest possible account of the vehicle through VMI. I don't use TIPS and can't vouch for its accuracy.

We are talking about the same car.

Please do not refer to "the" Russian site being down because "the" Russian site is not down, they just moved the VIN decoder to be open for forum members while "the other" Russian site that has been mentioned multiple times already in this thread is still working and gives the datacard for your car.

If you would have complained about missing text for a few codes, I could have sent you the genuine copy.
The other Russian site

Also it is a US car and if you are from the US, you can subscribe to EPC for free and read the exact data card yourself (I have to pay for it and for several countries this service is not available at all)

I hope that these VIN requests aren't taking too much advantage of a good thing, but I'm stuck. I have a 200D in the US with VIN WDB12312010335567 which I'm having a hard time registering because the US Dept Motor Vehicles thinks its a 2001. I believe it is a 1982, but there's no date stamp anywhere on the car that I can find. I have a valid NY title, but PA is still giving me grief...
thanks in advance.
