Help - need help with transmission control unit fault

My slk320 was involved in a fairly low impact accident. Insurance agreed to pay for exhaust, catalytic convertor and paint job. However car suffered a transmission issue immediately after collision - would not shift gears and hence car needed to be towed; diagnostics show that the transmission control unit had an error and shifter lever position cannot be determined.

Insurance says that fault data does not support issue and could be a problem with mtnce!! Since car was fine before accident the burden of proof is on me to establish fault, according to Insurance. Is there a way to determine that this issue was not present before crash (speed data?) or if it was caused by collision?

thanks much

You will need a workshop to support you in this matter as they may be able to prove it was caused by the collision. We often get cars under insurance work and the insurance man comes takes all the pics and we dissasemble the car whilst he is here and make the list with him.

All too often the car is a none runner and electronics cannot be checked until the repair is almost complete, then when we run the tests and find fault we call the insurance man back and he comes to discuss it, we normally can prove it.

But this is in China and your systems may be different.
