Car won't start first time of the day
Hey everyone, I'm new to this site, I figured I would get some opinions before spending loads of money taking it to a mechanic.
I have a 1987 420 SEL. For the past week or two, every time I start it for the first time that day (no matter if its morning or afternoon) the engine just will not turn over. It usually takes about 3-5 minutes to get it to finally start. The engine will try to turn over, and it sounds like it is going to, but then when I quit cranking the key in the ignition, it just dies. And sometimes the car will even start shaking really bad. A few days ago I kept trying to turn the key over and it just made a scratching noise. I waited about 3 minutes and tried again and the scratching noise never happened again. I always get it to finally start, though. But for the last 2 days, it has happened about 3 times a day, rather than just the first time I start it that day. I just got the starter replaced 6 months ago so I don't think that's the problem. I'm totally stumped here. Does anyone have any ideas?
And also, I don't know if these could be related, but prior to this problem happening, sometimes when I would be driving my car would just start shaking and I would try to accelerate and nothing would happen, my car would just kind of coast along, or it would start jerking while I was giving it gas, this would last about 30 seconds and then it would be fine. Ever since I have had trouble getting my car to start, that hasn't happened. I'm not sure if they are correlated.
