another FNG that's happy to be here - hello to everyone!!

Hello everybody...finally pulled the trigger and joined the forum instead of lurking in the background. A little about myself: I'm a Army Aviation Maintenance Warrant Officer out her at Ft Riley, Kansas just back a few months from another Iraq deployment (my 5th between Iraq and Afghanistan). Before deployment, I bought a peach of an '85 380SL (31,775 original miles) from a friend of my Dad. Mom has an '80 450SL that she loves!! Got this for a steal of a deal because the engine has a thrown rod and the cylinder wall is toast. Based on some of the threads I have read here, I would like to transplant a 5.0L Euro motor in this (if I can find one) since I have to find a new engine anyway. I figure go big or go home!!! If anyone here has a line on a good used one I would definitely be interested. Also, if anyone has advice on any aspect of this proposed swap I will gladly welcome it. I am also currently restoring a '66 Chevy Impala that's about to have the whole body media blasted, so I have a lot of irons in the fire!! My wife thinks I'm crazy for all the projects but I can't help but save these guys!! Can't wait to see the perma-smile on her face when I present her with a running SL that'll pin her to her seat when she pushes on the loud pedal and her hair blows in the breeze!! If the Army will just leave me home long enough to play with these projects rather than sending me to combat!!! Anyhow....looking forward to the project and the mentorship and advice from all the SME's (subject matter experts) here at benzworld!
