I am sure you guys get this all the time. But maybe you can have mercy on me.
I have always loved the 70-80s diesels. I have been looking at getting a new car, one that is a bit bigger and more comfortable than what I have right now. I have been eyeballing an 85 300 TD. It has 138k original miles. The guy who is selling it was the mechanic on the car for the last 10 years. The guy who owned it before recently died and the mechanic bought it from him.
The interior isn't great, but there is worse. It is leather and there is some cracking. The hood was replaced because the guy hit a deer. It isn't the exact same dyelot as the rest of the car, but it looks good to me. Here is a link to the ad for it. 1985 Mercedes 300Turbo Diesel
I was trying to talk him down to 3k - 3,250. Is his $ amount on the money?
Am I putting too much stock in such an older car to think about it being a daily driver? I drive MAYBE 100 miles a week. So not a ton. My husband used to balance big detroit engines for HP semis so he is no schluck of a mechanic either. But he knows nothing of MB.
I was debating between this car or a 90s model Olds 88, Lincoln, Buick Park Avenue - with less than 80k.
Tell me what you think, what I need to look for. I do have a 2 year old in a carseat so I want something reliable. I don't want anything perfect, we ranch and live on a gravel road. But this car is so vintage looking, it is hawt and right up my alley.
