I did it on several MB. All of them would not rev on idle much above 2000 rpm and they will up shift about 600 rpm before redline. When I hold the gear by manual shifting, it will get closer to redline, but it will not pass it.

In neutral, as I said there is a limiter, just to protect the engine but on many Benz holding it in a low gear will let you pass the red line.
