Could you give more details of when it was last serviced and what you were doing when this happened, background information is important, especially if it was a con rod bolt that broke.

Was serviced 4 months ago at a Mercedes Main agent and only 3500 miles ago. Was doing around 60 mph whilst accelerating when it went.

Thanks, that looks OK and how hard were you accellerating?, any major engine repairs previously?

No previous repairs that I know of and wasn't accelerating hard at all, less than 4000rpm when it went.

Better check that one, MB are keen on recording repairs.

>>>>SL63 AMG July 2008 registered with 14600 miles ... out of warranty by 31 hours ...
>>Now is September 2011.
>>Sept 2011 - July 2008 = 3 years and some months
>>I thought basic warranty was 4year/50,000miles. How did MB come up with 31 hours?

I'm not that mechanically minded so this doesn't mean much to me but the con-rod has ended up in the sump cover and there is a piston in the sump?

I've struggled to find any other numbers for MB, everything goes back to their useless customer service department.
31 hours out of warranty sounds very tight. They might make some mistake calculating because there's no leap year between 2008-now, and there's difference in time zones, daylight saving if applicable.
What's the exact time and date when you drove the car off the dealer's lot and when it blew up?
I think if you can narrow 31 hours down to some lower number, you can sue MB for misrepresenting fact and telling you a big lie. I also think the MB's 4year/50Kmile warranty is standard around the world. That 2yearsMB/1yearAMG may be a huge lie from them, too.

If you bought the SL63 new from your local dealer; I would get them involved. Especially since you have owned previous MB and AMG vehicles. If you have a good relationship with your dealer; they will help you with MB simply to keep a good customer in the fold. Good luck.

You are living in dream world here, these people are arguing hours on a warranty thing.

Two different things completely Eric. The OP is talking about MB themselves. I am talking about getting a dealer involved (whom moves dozens, if not hundreds of units per year), to try to get some answers which make more sense.
