I was under impression that in electronic era the engines have whole set or self-preserving programs and rpm limiter would be a main one. I know as a fact that "cheap" 320 engines from late 1990's have not only limiters, and transmission protection that will not engage low gears at high speed, nor R while the car is moving forward, but also have overheating protection that will kill the engine if the driver would try to drive with non working cooling system.
Anyway, the "AMG snapping internal engine bolt 1 day after warranty expired" is not looking good and I believe AMG will try to work the issue, but than legally expired warranty is expired warranty and legally we can talk about good will repair.
Good luck to OP.
