Post Engine swap over

Hi All,
I have a W201 180E 1991, 1.8 (1797cc) with 4 speed Auto.
I am wondering, if and when the engine finally is stuffed,
and I want to replace it, would a W201 190E 2.0, or 2.3 engine
fit straight in,? or what other engine could I fit in, that would require
the Least amount of mods to make it fit.?

Has to legal of course (Australia), so no massive V12's.
I would like a bit more "oomph" without too much messing about,
or costing a mint.

No rush, just interested to see if it is available.

Thanks
MArk

Pretty much anything that the W201 was available with should fit fairly easily.

I think different engines have different mounts, so some welding might be required.
Growing up in Poland, where cars have been extremely expensive, I have seen all kinds of conversions. Mercedes diesel engine mounted in Russian Volga was very common. Economy of MB diesel and low price of big body Volga. They manufactured the plates to connect the engine to original transmission and even could adapt starters from Polish truck to run on MB engine.

Thankyou flyboyike and Thankyou Kajtek1, for the information.
I understand where you are coming from re the fitting of MB to Volga, as when I was younger, I had to make parts fit from one make of vehicle to another.
Required some lateral thinking and a good welding hand and Oxy cutting. (fun times).
Love the plane too.

I wonder why they did that, considering the GAZ factory produced the M24 export version with a factory-installed Peugeot diesel. I would imagine even in Poland the Peugeot engines would have been much cheaper than MB blocks.
