I don't know if this is the right place to start this thread, but I would like to collect all the information possible on Merc's manual and auto transmissions - cars, 4wds, unimogs, trucks, the lot.
I am now quite familiar with the all-alloy 716 210 4-spd man, and the 717 413 5-spd manual, but the rest baffle me a bit. Apparently, some BMWs used exactly the same Getrag (or is it ZF) gearboxes as Mercedes. I know now that the G-wagen had a divorced tranfer case, and that the 4matic transmission is a married system, so what did the (very few) manual ML's use?
I would like to collect photos, ratios, vintage, engines/models used on/with, etc.
In short, anyone who has a gearbox question should ultimately be able to get answers here.
Good idea? Wrong place?
