1962 220S Carb problem

Hello! I recently bought a '62 220s and the tank was about half full of old gas so I added about 2 gallons of fresh gas and it starts up fine and runs well enough. However, the carb(s) flood and the car stalls (for 20-30 minutes or so until dry enough) at stop signs etc. Also, the acceleration is very sluggish in 1st gear until I hit about 15 mph then there's a power surge and it begins to run normally.

Any suggestions?

Thanks! Joe

The carbs on these old cars use a needle valve and float system, it looks like the needle valve is stuck in the open position, to fix this you will need to take the top of the carb off and remove/clean the needle valve.

Eric, thanks for the great feedback. The sluggish start problem wasn't a problem at all since I was starting in 2nd gear. Duh.
