Cold start problem.

Hope someone can help.
When my car is left parked up overnight, it takes several seconds of turning over before it fires and then blows out a cloud of blue/grey smoke. After that it runs perfectly and starting from warm and later on in the day is not a problem. It only seems to be after left overnight. The car is a 2007 MY and has only covered 13000 miles from new.
The car had been standing for some time prior to me purchasing it but was serviced fairly recently by Mercedes. I have used it regularly both around town and on the motorway.
The garage that sold me the car think that it just needs a good run. I'm not sure. What do you think?
Many thanks in advance.

Hello Debbie and welcome to the forum.

First off, your car is what MB calls a W211 so it's best to pose your question there. More actual owners are likely to see it. That's obviously not normal behaviour but it could be something simple. For example, are you waiting for the glow plug light to extinguish before engaging the starter? Is there any way you are still covered by the new car warranty? (4 years/50,000 miles in the US)

A good run is not a bad idea and I doubt that can hurt anything, but better to wait for some other E320 CDI owners to reply.

Good luck.

I have been asking for making separate diesel section on this forum, so
cdi are famous for combustion coming close to perfection. Even our 98 E300dt will not release poof of smoke, unless something is really wrong with the engine.
So don't take the BS from the dealer and request full engine scan.
In US we do have MBUSA hot-line to complain about dealers, I wonder if you have something similar in UK?
From your description looks like an injector might not hold the static pressure and floods the engine overnight, but with warranty why that should be your problem?

I've got a good mind to say that a good run can't hurt and afterwards you can see if the problem has resolved itself.
