New to the forum, Aerospace Quality Engineer in Chicago land. I have always been a bimmer owner until they got so ugly I had to start looking at mercedes. I bought my wife a two year old 1997 C280, we still drive this 14 year old car. The C280 has been trouble free excluding the aircondition at 110k. The C280 is what motivated to replace my aging bimmer with a 2008 C300 sport with 21k a year ago. The C300 does everything well except for one thing and that is what brought me to the forum. Recently upon start up the engine makes a knocking noise like dry lifters, for the first five seconds. I brought it to the dealer and they confirmed it but said it would not harm anything. I have read many other people experience the same thing. This can't be right. Has anyone come to any resolution on this subject? Warranty runs out in November and I would like to resolve this. MB should respond to their customers concerning this issue such as a recall or a statement to the affect of know harm. I had a 1995 BMW 540 that had premature cylinder wall wear. It was a known issue and when I had it checked compression came out leaky. BMW replaced my 80k engine with a OEM brand new engine, no hassles. Perhaps us V6 owners should unite and make a little noise. I know I would not have considered purchasing a MB had I been aware of this. Tell me there is a siver lining to this!
