They had the car from 9/13 to 9/23...time to do what. When I press the gas the engine sound loud where as before it did not. How can I tell if my engine has been tampered with?

Yes I have had some bad experiences so he lost me when he consulted with me about the car, gave me a figure and when I called to see where the work was I was told he was gone to Italy and would not return for a week. Someone else did the work he and I talked about. We talked about a budget and when he left without notice the others increased it by $1300.00 I am frustrated because any sign of deception throws up a red flag for me.
Well, for starters, what do they say they did, aside from the A/C conversion?

The list is long, chekc a/c--r&R A/C manifold hosesm, send out for rebuild, replace damaged klima relay, replace compressor due to 14 amp clutch draw, replace drier and low pressure switch, evacuate and recharge syste, replace split hater monovale inser, replace a.c. control panel with correct unit, solder joints, reseal power steering gearbox, replace steering coupleter replace trans coller lines, replace timing chain rails in cylinder heads, replace tensioner rail and sent out sub-let rebuilding a.c hose. That cost alone was $395.00 which is the cost of a brand new hose R12. I am trying to wrap my brain around all of this and pray that I was not deceived. The bill was over $3,000.00

I suppose the thing to do would be to take it to another mechanic to get looked at. Did they only replace the timing chain rails, but not the chain itself or the tensioner?

Yes they only replaced the rails and not the chain or the tensioner which is a halfbutt job. I do intend to keep the car and even if I was selling it I would not sell it to someone like that either. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Anyway, I did take it to another mechanic and he was disappointed in the deceision to half do the job.

Did he find anything else suspect? I would recommend you at least get the tensioner done.

What is all involved in a A/C conversion. He said he sent it out to have the hoses rebuilt, how many hoses does it involve?

I will take your advice and get someone else to look at it. I am concerned something was done to the engine and you can't know that by looking at it with the naked eye

Generally it's advisable to replace the receiver/drier bottle and the expansion valve. If the hoses were leaky, they would go, too. If memory servers, there are two of them.

Why in the world would he send it out to have them rebuilt, sounds like he maybe rebuilt my engine. How can I tell if he tampered with the engine at all. Something is wrong and I have no idea what it is. I feel their agenda was not in my best interest. I want my car to be the car it was before they work on it...it that possible.

Probably to have new fittings put on them rather than outright replace the hoses. I don't think they rebuilt your engine, seeing as it would have cost them a lot more than the three grand they charged you.

I hope you are right. I think changing the R12 without my permission created a trust factor. I told him to leave everything factory....do not not change original factory design and it happened. He had the car for two weeks and the drive is different.

What can I do to make sure the engine was not rebuilt?
