Smile Wiring harness ML320

I recently purchased a pre-owned ML 320 that does not have a backup camera or Parktronic installed. Checked with local MB dealer, and was told that if the camera or Parktronic was not installed by the factory, it was not possible to install afterward.
Ownership of previous MB's found that in most of the original vehicle wiring harness's, they had all wiring assembled, and options that were not factory installed, the wires were left blanked.
Question: is the camera wiring in the rear hatch in, as part of the wiring harness? I have checked and found the fuse allocated for it in the right side rear fuse block.
Any further ideas of suggestions re installation of a backup camera would be appreciated.

All the appropriate parts can be bought but there is not retrofitt listed in WIS. Even if you did manage to fit the entire system it would need to be programed using SDS. I do not know if SDS can program the control unit as it will need the information from the old unit first and you do not have an old unit.

Thanks for your reply Eric. I am aware that it is not possible to retrofit a factory system. I have looked at a number of aftermarket cameras (wireless to a dash-mounted display), and my question referred to the wiring for a power supply to the camera. If as I suspect, the original harness contains the wire from the fuse block in the right rear of the vehicle, and the wire is loose, inside the rear hatch license plate area, then i can use that power supply for the camera I choose. Rather than need to run a new wire.

Aftermarket units supply all you need and yes you will have to follow the instructions carefully, it may not, depending upon which unit you choose, require to run all new wires.

Buy a unit that is specifically recommended for your model and keep it simple. I will look for the wiring diagram but not sure if it will copy too well on a screen shot, back later.

I do not know if this will show too well as WIS needs scrolling when doing a screen shot and I have not got the hang of it yet, to enlarge the pic mouse over and left click.

The first post was not a good shot of the wiring diagram, so I broke it down to 2 shots, lets see how this looks.

Thanks very much Eric. Looks like I had hoped, there will be a connector in the wiring loom in the rear hatch, close to the factory camera mount position. I will check, but am pretty sure wires 1 & 2 will be the 12V power, which is what I need!

Cheers

Yes, there are GREAT aftermarket kits that work just like the factory installef system. We have them for every model.
