Post Non-original paint question

Just recently picked up a 2000 SL 500 in mint condition except for one quirk. The paint code for this vehicle is 744, Brilliant Silver, and the hood is Brilliant Silver, but the rest of the car is not. And I'm not sure what the color is.

Is there any way to get information from MB based on the VIN, in case they would have a record? If so how do you go about that?

If the paint job was done by someone else, is there a master database that body shops use that could possibly have the information?

I have a couple of chips that I'd like to touchup, but am not wanting to guess at the color.

I appreciate any help that can be provided.

Try calling MBUSA using 800-FOR-MERC. But all they probably have is the build sheet and that should show 744 too. If the work was done at a MB certified collision center they might have something in their database.

What color is the rest of the car?

Post Checked with MB

I did check with MB today, they did a database search on the vehicle based on the VIN, and came up empty. The hood is definitely 744 Brilliant Silver, I'm trying to determine the color of the rest of the car.
