Safari 190E: Project Car
New Member Here,
I Joined the Benz world yesterday when I purchased a swift running '88 190e to get me through school.
At a decent 130k miles, solid shifting on the automatic transmission and easy crawl to highway speeds, the vast maroon interior settled upon me and my imagination started to turn.
I need a high-capacity tourer for myself and at least one guest to hum about the eastern seaboard throughout the coming year... so I've settled upon building one for my enjoyment as a project, and as a prep for my dream diesel to come.
What's Happening Now?
First things first... Currently En route to a mountain escape where I am spending these final weeks of summer are a number of fittings: Two Cases of military specced olive drab paint, a tub of bondo, four 4" speakers and a new receiver, and a Walker noiseless SS Muffler. I'll be doing the work myself, and will be sure to post photos of the Process on this forum and on 190revolution should the administrator approve my account.
In the near future I will be modifying or building custom: rear mounted Deck Basket, roof mounted Safari Basket, (and if time and interest are permitting) external fuel harnesses & Pushbars for those long nights, thus accommodating the simultaneous needs posed by my being a frequent mover and disposed to geographically far flung interests.
Before the paint arrives this week, I will remove all model markings, removing parts such as the windshield whiper (set aside for painting) and chrome addenda from the vehicle. I then plan to carefully seal the holes behind the model markings and antenna, sand, and paint. To this end, fresh stencils of new markings in British Khaki matte-on-matte should pop clean off the vehicle, incorporating the Benz logo design into a reinterpretation of the stock US army "star".
Details on parts and products in my next update.
