W211 E270 CDI in limp mode with no fault code

I have a 2002 W211 E270 CDI (125.000km) with sequential gearbox. Since a few days when I start the engine the car goes into limp mode switching into manual and 2500 rpm max with no message at all from the on board computer. If after 5 minutes I stop the engine and wait for 10-15" with the ignition off, the car will start again and runs fine.

I had a similar problem years ago, when the car was still under warranty and after changing tons of parts it was fixed by replacing the catalyzers. This probably happened since I was driving the car for sometime in Egypt, where diesel fuel is meant to be used for heavy trucks and not passengers cars.

This is the first thing I did this time too with no success (cleared both cats).

Then I has a MB dealer testing the car and the diagnostic was: faulty transmission control unit. But they didn't ensure me that replacing the unit will fix the problem.

I have the feeling that the problem stands elsewhere. Maybe a clogged EGR valve?

Any suggestion based on your experience?

Best regards,

Can't help you with your engine or Egypt fuel , but transmission codes need to be read by Star computer. You will not see them on the cluster, although W211 do have mysterious engineering mode that allows some access to computer data.
