IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST DRIVE, NOW CEL..LET THE ROMANCE BEGIN.

SO FAR THE CAR IS DRIVING GREAT, JUST PICKED UP THIS BEAUTIFUL 99 E430 WITH 90,000 MILES ON HER. IVE HAD MULTIPLE MISFIRES IN 5,6,AND 7, AND 2 BAD O2 SENSORS. I CHANGED THOSE 6 PLUGS (WITH 4TIPPED, WHICH NOW I READ MAY NOT BE GOOD FOR CAR) AND CLEANED MAF SENSOR. NOW I STILL SHOW 6 MISFIRING? MAYBE THE WIRE IS BAD OR COIL? OR IS IT THE 4TIPPED SPARK PLUGS?.. ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED, ALSO THE MAF CLEANER APPEARS TO HAVE WORKED AND DTC'S HAVE NOT RETURNED...THANKS IN ADVANCE AND ITS GREAT TO BE PART OF THIS COMMUNITY!

Hi Eric, any thoughts on my issues... I also had issue starting the car today, it would crank for like 8 seconds and not fire, it did this for about half an hour and then finally fired up.

I would change the crankshaft position sensor and go from there. There is no simple way of testing this sensor and it is showing all the signs of a bad sensor.

I had a similar issue with my '00 E320 not starting and several times cutting out on me while driving... Had to let it sit for a while (over an hour once) before it would start up. Replaced the CPS and problem solved.

update: I replaced cps, replaced maf, replaced air and fuel filter... Car has been running good and gas mileage noticibly improved for about a week with no cel and after returning from about a 1hr trip the p0170 and p0173 codes returned... Could it be a vacuum leak? If so, how could I check?...oh I also have the oil pressure port and breather covers leaking oil, which I plan to fix soon..(could this loss of oil trigger these codes?)

A vacuum leak is possible, the way to check is to have the engine running and spray a little carb cleaner on the areas where leaks can occurr, especially around the base of the fuel injectors. If there is a leak the carb cleaner spray will be sucked in and the engine idle speed will increase or become erratic.
