Hi! New member resurrecting a 240D
I have an Auto addiction, especially Mercs. I just purchased my first Mercedes in four years, a 1981 240D (seized engine). I sold my 1983 300TD wagon in 2007 to buy a 2006 Audi A3 and regretted it within a couple years. My 300TD needed work and I put a lot of work into tightening her up and making her run like new. When I was done she didn't leak fluids or burn oil, and except for a shift flare between 2nd and 3rd, she ran perfect with lots of power. Lack of AC, a bad rear axle, and the promise of a new car with warranty convinced me to sell her.
About my 240D, nick named Aria.II, I just bought her last week from a friend. I knew about the seized engine and got a decent deal on the car. I am currently hunting for a reasonably priced OM616.912 to throw in her. I was going to wait to buy a running 240D, but couldn't pass up this car. It belonged to a friend who drove it for five years, until the one time he forgot to check the oil before a trip. If he had the money he would've done an engine swap. I gave her a full inspection for rust and common Merc issues. The PO had done decent upkeep, but he didn't have the money to maintain her right. I'm looking to change that over the next few months as I bring her back to glory. It feels great to be back in the Merc world.
I also have a 73 VW bus that's a fun side project, stripped the interior out, getting the rust repaired, it will be completely custom by the time it's done. My 1962 Chevy Impala is my baby. She sat for too many years at my parents house and outside my apartment while waiting to be garaged and needs lots of work also, but still drives. She's a future restore project and my backup ride.
