Well, I've been reading this board for a few years, but thought I'd finally post some pics and post replies once in a while. I have a 1987 560SL, which was purchased new by my parents. I was told as a teenager to keep it in good shape, since one day it would be mine! Well, once I did the marriage/kids/house thing, and finally had a garage to store it, it was mine. Miles are low - approx 41k - and the condition is fantastic (thanks in no small part to the hundreds of coats of wax I've put on it over the past 24+ years). I'm not a mechanic (or inclined to do much on the mechanical side of an auto), but I've found a local shop owned by a former MB tech that does very good work at prices obviously better than the local dealer. Recent work includes - new muffler, new front calipers/rotors/pads, new rear shocks, steering damper, tune up, rotate/balance, and some other random things. Hard to complain about replacing those original parts after a quarter-century, right? With the help of various posts on the subject, I've also recently replaced the stock speakers with a set of 4" Polks that has done wonders for listening to music on the highway.
A funny story that the fathers on the board will appreciate - my oldest son (now 6) was helping me clean the car a few years ago, when he ventured into my nearby toolkit and started "fixing" my car...with a hammer to the trunk!
Those scratches (probably the only ones on the car) will be his problem in about 25 years, I guess...
Anyway, glad to "officially" be here, and looking forward to receiving (and giving, if possible) advice on this board.
