I love my 1981 300SD

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jonathan and I live in Seattle. I have been wanting to get my hands on a diesel for years. I have always driven VW diesels and this is my first Mercedes. I have a 1981 300SD with 268k and I absolutely love it.

What I have done so far:

Lower front end rebuild. It was all over the place. The brake control arms were certainly a challenge. But now I know the 126 ride that is loved by so many. Wow!

New shocks.

New monarch injectors, valve stem seals and adjustments.

1991 seats and door trims (pick n pull $150). I also took the wiring out of the donor and ran it in my car. Really worth the effort. My seats were shot. Leaning into the drivers door while driving was getting old.

I managed to break my ALDA. Live and learn. I just wish I knew to take the thing off for more power before getting on the highway to come home. That was brutally painful and slow.

New tires. The front ones were over 10 years old. Very scary! That also got rid of a lot of sloppy steering.

Fixed window switches (soda, etc in the works)

Trying to fix the circuit board for the door vacuum control unit. Back burner project.

A lot of little maintenance issues or lack there of. Compression pumped up to 425 on 4 cylnders and only 325 on one. Is this a really bad thing? Runs really well.

Engine mounts! One bolt was missing. Not as hard as I had thought, but messy even after cleaning the engine.

Next is tackling the A/C system. Got all the parts online and ebay cheap and I plan to get that done ASAP.

She is a really fun car to drive. It's my first turbo and it's nice to pass people uphill!
