Voice Command muted

I have a 2004 CLK Cab with the Voice Command System. Lately, the "voice" seems very muted and difficult to hear, especially with the top down. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

I have that too but mine has never varied in volume. Do you have the separate booklet that comes with that option? I finally found mine on eBay because it was missing from my pre-owned car. Maybe the speaker is going bad?

Nope! I don't have a separate booklet for the VCM. The volume used to track along with the volume of the radio. Now it is muted, regardless of the radio volume. Does your book have any comment on this?

Did you try to tune audio volume while the lady is talking to you? This is the way MB allows you to adjust different audio sources independently from others, like the navigation announcements etc.

I'm away from my car and the manual right now but I will certainly check and get back to you A.S.A.P. Only from memory but it's a pretty complicated system. For example you are supposed to "train it" to recognize your voice. I didn't have to for whatever reason. Last it took me a few weeks to locate the booklet. I was searching on eBay using every term I could think of without success. When I finally discovered MB calls it Voice Recognition I found it immediately.

Just toggle the level then say "help". Some woman's voice will guide you.
After you train her, you need to tell her what you want then the details.
For example, you say "select station", she says "station please", you say "KISS" if you had programmed "KISS" as voice command for radio station "KIIS FM 102.7"

Spot On!

Thanks, Diesel Benz, your advice was absolutely correct! Leave it to MBZ to allow for independent volume adjustment between its VCS and the radio, cd, etc.
