So, a quick intro....
Ive always been into American cars, never had a single inclination to get into a German car whatsoever....until about 2 months ago.
I work at a used car lot (buy here, pay here) in the City of Richmond. A car trades in his white 94 S420, since the day he drove it on the lot i fell in love with the car, something about it wouldn't let me get it out of my head.
Here in the Commonwealth every car we take in on trade has to get a valid state inspection prior to legally being able to be sold on the car lot. So the boss sends it away for that. The car comes back like 2 weeks later, and she was running horribly, like absolute dogsh*t. The car sat on the back of the lot just like that for the next month and a half.
Everyday i would come in and open the gate, and she would stare at me, as if greeting me every morning. So last week I asked the boss what was going on with the white Mercedes, and he said he was going to send it to auction. I asked him what he wanted for it, due to me being interested, and I purchased the car for 2500 dollars as she sat. Then there I was the proud owner of 94 W140....
Now she ran horribly, however I knew it ran perfectly fine when the fella came and traded the car in. I pop her hood and see they replaced the plug wires, and cap and rotors, so naturally I get on here and find the firing order/spark plug diagram, and sure enough, the plugs were waaaaay out of order. I swith that up and she purred like a kitten.
I went to take her on her maiden voyage, and every time i would hit the gas she would sputter, buck, and run at extremely low RPMs....I know nothing about German cars, and if you look at my signature you'll see that all the vehicles i own are older American, why you ask? Because I can readily fix any problem at any given time with a trip to Autozone. Wiring and electronics are the devil to me. So now I had dove head first into a very scary world with the W140.
I called and asked around, and even searched here. I changed the fuel filter, checked all my plug wires again, everything that I thought would be the answer, but to no avail. Until last Wednesday, I was looking at the 4.2 liter V8 shaking my head about what I had gotten into, when i noticed a knob at the base of the throttle body....I decided whats the worst that could possibly happen by turning it? So i twisted it out until i saw a little arrow on the knob, and sure enough she roared to life. Took her on her test drive, and she drove completely splendid.
So all in all I spent 2500 on the car, 120 for a battery, and 20 bucks for a fuel pump and have a perfectly fine running and driving S420, white over gray, with 128,000 miles. Everything is in working order from the locks to the auto shut doors. I honestly have no complaints about the car whatsoever.
