SL 320 Check Engine Light

Hello, I'm Deborah and I especially would like to ask SL320Bill about a check engine light which came onto my car yesterday. I checked the manual and they discuss the transmission and I did experience a bit of a RPM surge while driving. Both brothers are gear heads and thought I possibly need a fluid change since I've had the car but drive occasionally (the other is a '2000 Jeep Wrangler) and haven't had the trans fluid checked or flushed. So, I'm guessing I need to have the system flushed and filled. I bought the car in "05 with about 70,000 miles and it's now a little over 100,000. Thanks guys (and girls).

There are scores of potential causes for a check engine light and guessing only makes it worse. Aamco, as well as many auto parts stores will read codes for free, which will reflect what is actually wrong and thus the cause of the CEL. You can also buy a basic OBD-II code reader on Amazon for $30 if you don't want to be trapped.

If I had to guess, I would bet your CEL has absolutely nothing to do with your transmission.

As Eric says, please complete your profile. You may also find that you're close to a member with a code reader who'd be happy to give you a hand.

Good luck.
