Does changing car battery with Key in position, kill the key?
Have a problem after changing battery on our 1999 CLK 230K, have spent all night scouring this forum and note some mention of a possibity that changing the car battery with the key in the ignition, not turned at all, just in the ignition, can kill the key.
I can't seem to find anything concrete but the symptoms I have, key won't turn, remote locking won't respond, seem to point to dead key. Have changed fob batteries but note again on forum that batteries in fob not necessary to start car??
Truth is I can't remember if key in or out when changing battery but suspect it may well have been. Only supplied with one key when we bought car as used.
Sorry to bother but I haven't found a decent dealer around the West Midlands, UK where we live, and in fact distrust them all with a passion so would appreciate guidance before approaching dealers at all!
Thanks again for any help, much appreciated. Paul
