1) If the vehicle was purchased from a legitimate dealer ... they should have had the car looked over by a MB dealer, or MB specialist (especially an S Class).
2) Regardless, you should have had a pre.purchase inspection made on the vehicle.
3) At this point, I would mandate a COMP (Comprehensive) CHECK by a local MB dealer, or, if none are within appropriate distance ... then ... substitute an independent.
There are so many variables ... it just does not make sense to cherry pick one repair. More than likely, there are several repairs required on the vehicle. The very fact that a mechanic used a wrong part, says he likely did not know what he was doing in the first place.
