W111 sedan owner here

We have a 1966 230S, and are the third owners. The first owner had it until about 1991, and we bought it from the second owner in early 1992. It has about 215K miles on it, and we rebuilt the engine at about 150K or 160K miles. It was my wife's daily driver up through about 2003, and we unfortunately let it sit for way too long. But, it is a Benz, so it fired right up with a fresh battery and fresh fuel. It still has original paint on the top, hood and trunk, although it is faded. The driver's door hinges are a bit tired, but we have a replacement for the top hinge. There's a dent along the passenger side which has to be repaired, but it is otherwise in pretty good, if aged, shape. For now, the goal is to get it back to daily driver condition so I don't have to use my work van for everything. It has a whole lot more class than just about anything else on the road, even though it is a beige four door sedan. It's a whole lot less expensive to keep it going than to buy a new car, too.

The odd thing about all this is we have had three 1966 Mercedes Benzes. The first was a green 230S which was in terrible shape. We sold it when we got the beige one. Then we had a 250SE which was titled as a 1966. It was in awful shape, but it was free and it ran. It was a gray market import by somebody attached to an embassy sometime or another, and it was a mess! We drove it for about five years before selling it for parts. I liked it because it had a five speed transmission and was a European car with the cleaner headlights, but the body was so rotted it was really beyond repair.

We also had a W124 for a while - also a gray market car. It was a 1980 280. It wasn't quite the car the W111s are as far as being completely stone reliable. There was always some little problem with it, but it may have been an abused car. It started to show signs of terminal rust, so we sold it.

Our current 230S had rust, but we replaced the front fenders with fenders from a rust free 300(!), new OEM rockers, and got the floor patched with steel plates.

That's pretty much it. So here I am, and I'll probably be asking a whole lot of questions about where to find parts to put the car back together down in the vintage forum.
