Results of Aftermarket Star C3 Purchase

I bought an aftermarket C3 diagnostic unit and wanted to share what I found. I bought a C4 unit before that would only read about half of the control modules in my car. The software was ok, but the mux had issues. I was about ready to give up when I found a C3 unit at

MB STAR C3 Mercedes Benz Diagnostic+Developer 01/2011 For Sale.

I decided to take a chance for $449.00 and give it a try. This unit works like a champ. The cables, etc. all look to be OEM quality and I am very happy with the system. I have a Dell D620 and they supplied a HDD for my computer. Still sorting out WIS and EPC, but I have that anyway on another DVD and online, so that is not a big concern. What I wanted was a reliable DAS system to work and this one does.

How do you know this one is reliable if you've only had it for a while? You could post photos from the circuit boards of the multiplexer but judged from the price, this is the C3 that is actually using either the "C4" circuit boards or similar Chinese design and these are generally considered prone to fail. I hope it turns out not to be the case for you.

Thanks I hope it will stay reliable. I have been running it hard for 3-4 weeks now, so we shall see. I took my car to an indie a few months ago to have my auto closing trunk problem looked. He ran DAS but could not see any problems and I was hoping it was only a configuration issue. I was almost ready to spring for a new PSE module ($$$) plus labor and DAS work, but once I got this one running, I was able to configure the PSE to recognize the option, so now the trunk is working like it should be. The C3 unit has a 1 year warranty so I am not going to open up until then.

It has been over a year now. How has it held up? Thanks. Bill

The C3 unit still works great. I have disabled the auto updates to keep the configuration original. I found if you enable the updates, it will corrupt the software.

Do you mean on-line AddOn fixes? You would not get any fixes for a 1+ year old SW setup, better to disable that OUBG service.

Most of the fixes would have been good for you but it is too late now.

Anyway, good to hear that your tool is still fine, perhaps it is a HQ product.
