Greetings from the high Uintas of central Utah

I am a 69 year young retired university professor now living in Provo, Utah at the mouth of Rock Canyon, not too far from Robert Redford's beautiful Sundance. I am trying to fulfill a dream here of doing some exploring in the Uintah range which is full of fire roads and endless mountain landscapes. For this I have acquired a rugged 1977 Toyota FJ40--in great shape. But for one thing, the engine, this vehicle is all I could ask for. I really like diesels. There are numerous options pursued among the cruiser set including Cummins 4bt, Isuzu 4BD, and even Toyota diesels which are scarce in the USA and generally used up. Then it came to me: in Brazil this same vehicle was sold as the "bandeirante" with a Mercedes Benz five cylinder engine. The more I looked the better the idea became. So now I am in pursuit of just the right turbo diesel out of a 300 MB. Be appreciative of any help you could be in locating a strong engine just waiting for a chance to take me on the adventure that is waiting in yonder hills. Thanks! Don (donholsinger@gmail.com)

69 years young and still up and going on adventures. That's an inspiration. I am sure if you search around the forum someone may be selling a parts car that would have the right diesel engine you are looking for. You could also try craigslist (in your area and in others) You may even be able to find an old diesel mercedes for sale that is in rough shape cosmetically (or maybe a burned out transmission) that you may be able to buy outright and just take the engine out of.

Anyway welcome aboard and good luck sir!
