2006 ML 350 Camshaft

I purchased a 2006 ML 350 I drove it for 2 days and the engine light came on, I brought it back to the dealer and they told me the cam shaft was worn and needs to be replaced. It has 79K on it should this be an issue so soon, is it common among other ML 350s. Should I give the car back and will the engine be the same after repair.

Do you have any information of what the code was? Are you sure it wasnt a balance shaft gear that they were talking about? Find out more info and let me know

2006, is more likely to be the balance shaft problem, there are threads on this all over the forum, do a search. At the top of the page to the right click search and in the google box type balance shaft 272 engine and enter. If this is the problem then a new shaft and all will be fine afterwards.

@eric242340. I say the picture of the balance shaft and it was definately that part. Is this a common problem, would it make the engine light come on (as the dealer say)? I drove the truck for a week before they took it back and it seemed fine, the engine light just kept coming on and off from time to time. My worry is that they have it in their shop for about 2weeks, telling me they have problems putting in the new balance shaft in the correct position so as to not trip the sensors, personally I think if you know what your doing it should not take this long but I not a mechanic. I hope with all their trial and error they won't brake or mess up somthing else.
