Yeah, I know what you mean about the clunkers. Somehow those damn clunkers just keep on running! My god! What was Mercedes thinking when they built those darn cars that ran for 300,000 miles and are still on the road 20, 30, even 40+ years later! Thank GOD that Mercedes finally got with the plan and started selling (actually leasing more likely) their fantastic luxo-cars that have a lifespan of just 10 years or less...
Ironically, sarcastic responses like this is exactly why MBCA has no members and will disappear when the old guard dies off.
Seriously, it is the most closed minded club in the world. If they had the amount of enthusiasts that even a place like MBWorld has, then they'd have a dynamic club and a dynamic forum. Instead the attitude is to shut out anybody who doesn't have the same philosophy about the marque as does the (mostly geriatric) current members. There are TONS of MB and AMG enthusiasts out there. The question is, why aren't they part of MBCA and the MBCA forums? And when MBCA members even ask themselves that question, the implication is that they don't actually want "certain types" of owners as members. Okay, fine. Then MBCA will remain what it is, a closed place of limited importance.
I was a member for a while and then never renewed. (And btw, nobody from MBCA ever tried to contact me to retain me.) What's the reason to be a member? There was none.
I was told to recruit younger people and some AMG enthusiasts. But not "certain" types, i.e., those who like to mod their cars or take them to the track. The reality is that the old guard only wants its own as members. It's like the royal family pretending to like taking on commoners. In the end they really don't want to dilute the bloodlines.
And what's with that "forum?" Where did they get that software? From another planet? Why did they try to re-invent the wheel? Why not use software that people are familiar with? Software that is used by the majority of forums? It's alienating to even look at. No wonder it's dead. It's like getting into a car with the instruments and steering wheel all in the wrong place. What was the point? Forums are about members and traffic. They are about content, and in an environment that's familiar and comfortable.
Sorry to be so blunt, but somebody needs to be..... folks over there have been chasing their tails since day one trying to figure out what's wrong and why they have no members. But instead they keep shutting the door closed tighter and tighter on themselves and leaving a large contingent of owners of these cars feeling like they aren't welcome anyway.
Either be happy with the status quo (small club, very few members) or unlock the doors and realize that there are all kinds of people who own these cars. Welcome the diversity instead of being scared of it.
Today Mercedes is producing cars off the assembly line as I type this. And they are still called a Mercedes-Benz, the last time I checked. Whether it's a W11, a W123, or a W221, it's still a Mercedes-Benz. And the owners are all Mercedes-Benz owners.
