A few questions about a new mb purchase

I am hoping to purchase my first car in the coming months and have a few questions.

1. When I pick up the vehicle will it have any type of temporary insurance or license plates? How long is that valid for?
2. When does the title of the car get handed over to me? By the dealer or do I have to go to the dmv for that?
3. Any preferences on insurance companies?

The car I am hoping to purchase is the upcoming c class coupe.

In the USA ...

Vehicle will have temporary license plate

You need to work with insurance company for insurance

Assuming you are completely paying for car at time of purchase, you get title same time as permanent license plate arrives

Progressive if you like to support flaming liberal causes, otherwise whatever your best friend agent sells. IMHO it's a good thing to know your local agent personally.

The car should be completely paid for in cash and not financed. So I'd get the title from the dmv and not the dealer? Can you give me more info on that, I've never owned a car before so I am clueless about this topic.

If you are thinking of buying a brand-new MB from a dealership, why not visit the showroom and sit with a sales guy for 30 minutes.. He will be delighted to answer any of the many questions you might have about a prospective purchase.

Take a notebook, in case you forget the answers in your excitement...

In NY, if dealer is NY, he will get your reg and plates(usually for a fee-pretty steep). After car is registered, DMV will mail you your title. Mine came about 90 days after I registered car.

I think NY is the same as Massachusetts. In Mass, insurance prior to delivery and the dealer will get the plates from the dmv (with your insurance info.) The title will come in the mail from the dmv several weeks later.

You can call around or check online to get insurance quotes on the car you want before you buy. Then, when you're at the dealership to buy the car, you can call your preferred agent with the vehicle's information and they'll fax proof of insurance to the dealership before you drive the car home.

The title comes from the DMV because it's a state issued document with raised seals and other security features. You should get a bill of sale from the dealership if you need proof of ownership before you get your title.
