C32 post burnout LOUD CLUNK? Advice?

Thanks so much, I’m new to benzworld and this site is awesome! 2002 C32, I did a burn out, a very distinctive and loud clunk in the rear end (off to the right side) after letting the car sit for a day, it drives almost fine, when I am on the gas there is no noise or vibration, when the car is coasting at driving speed it makes a very slight clicking or light clunking in the rear part of the drive line, Is this a universal joint, what could happen if I let it break while driving, how long could it last?

It does sound like it could be a UV joint. I wouldn't drive on it at all, if possible, until you look at or get it fixed.

+1

You could have a whole host of problems (expensive problems) with the driveline - splines on either end of the haft shafts could be broken, the pinion/ring gear in the rear differental could be messed up, UV joint(s).

To keep from making the damages worse than what they are, you should get it checked out as soon as possible by a qualifed MB mechanic.

thanks guys!

I will be putting it up on the hoist soon, I just hoping its a visual diagnosis, not a dif. Just to add to the symptoms it was a hard burn out circular to the left, at first a heavy heavy clunk like a shaft was off and slamming the chassis but after sitting it drove better, a light rattle or click like described earlier. Thanks for all you help, pretty great bunch of benz guy! I will photo the disasembly.
