Take a look at 190D's. They are extremely reliable, and very easy to work on.

I get 32 MPG city and over 37MPG highway, and mine is a 4 speed auto.
The 5 speed manuals get more than 40MPG if you drive it right.

Thanks for your input. The 190 is nice looking car. I have driven the 190 gas in the past and I feel that it a little tight for me on long hauls.I'm 6'4".

Yeah, it might be a little small for you then haha

Take a look at the w123 forum. They are bigger, and generally easier to find.

Don't forget about the W210 1998 or 1999 E300TD.

I'm all ears, what do you like about W210 1998 & 1999 E300TD?

I have been a gasser with 450SEL & 560SEL.

Thanks

You'll also find no shortage of people who would own nothing but a W124 diesel, in particular the 300D. Nice size, sound like great machines. Might be what my next MB is. Pretty good diesel forum on the Peach Parts ShopForum--all diesel all the time.

e300 td fuel economy is no where close to that reported by the cdi folks. I see around 24mpg in the city on mine. Haven't had it on a good highway cruise very often but the best I saw when I did was around 31 mpg.

They are pretty simple engines that last a long time, but you need to read about the issues like spring perches and other corrosion related things, especially living in the upper midwest. I speak from experience having bought my 98 e300 in MI.

toolbender, I never owned one but have read good things about those. I was thinking since you are tall they might have enough head and leg room for you. Have a look at the W210 forum for more specifics.
