Out with a W140--In With A W140
I hated to see the well-liked 1993 400SEL go--black-on-black and loaded including power rear view mirror, parktronic while sitting on Donz wheels (347,000 miles). My spouse found a Grand Edition below 75,000 original miles. It is missing one of the back door shades and the rear electrical shade will not lower. Did I mention it has no parktronic or electric rear view mirror. It's interesting the luxuries one becomes accustomed too--making them necessities. Since there was a total of 600 made, I would like to know which number ours is. Also, I read that some of these have a refrigerator between rear seats. Unfortunately, I was disappointed not to find one in ours. Before anyone cries poor spoiled Benz owner, I am an Indie artist who has to carry equipment and food to gigs. Certain amenities I.e., refrigerator makes it easier and leaves boot room solely for speakers, etc. All that said, tho' I miss being engulfed in all the dark tint and black interior of that LWB 400SEL, I am enjoying driving this basically new auto--I think I prefer chromed wheels to the AMG aluminum ones. It has an original cassette player, WB radio and CD changer (magazine holds 10, plays 6). The command remote is missing. Thanks to Benzworld, we were able to open locked glovebox without the dealer fee. The books, holder came with everything, 4 keys, and a handwritten not to the other owner with driving directions to pick up the Benz. Filled yesterday @ $4.52/gallon. Guess it's time for this starving Indie artist to drive more economically. Hey-hey, still a happy W140 driver!
