300E 1992 running at high temp!!! Help needed

Hi, I'm new here and english is not my mother tongue, but I'll try. Recently I bougth a inmaculate 300E with only 84.000 kms on it. Everything works perfectly unless the engine that seems to run at very high temp, (about 110-115 degrees). Specially during heavy traffic, the fans will come on and the gauge goes down to about 95 and again will come ut again, and so on. When driving in a highway the temp remains at about 85 degrees. I have checked the thermostat, changed the fan clutch, checked the radiator for leaks, (has none), and the electric fans work fine. Can any one please give some advice? Thanks!!!

110 degrees celcius?

When is the last time you have done a coolant flush?

You can buy a thermostat that engages at a lower temperature if you want.

Hi '1425,
I had a similar problem but with a much older car, a 1968 230 'Automatic'. I had the temperature guage and sender unit removed and checked for accuracy. It was reading slightly too hot, but not much.
It turned out to be a substantially blocked radiator, due to a recent cylinder head repair. The usual crud etc inside the engine block had dried out during the repair, had come loose, and promptly blocked the radiator during the first few hundred miles.
I suggest that you get a flow test done on the radiator.
Another thing to look for would be collapsed hoses. Sometimes they delaminate internally, effectively blocking circulation.
Your symptoms appear similar to mine, in that the temperature was OK driving at moderate speeds, but overheating in slower traffic.

All the best
