Who here has multiples of the same model?

I have noticed quite a few members here that have two, three or even more of the same model and from the same generation. I have a hard time justifying two sedans, or two coupes, or two convertibles even from different marques, so can someone explain to me why you made the choice to own multiples?

Are most of you simply just fans of a specific car and can't get enough? Are they parts cars? Maybe just a coincidence that same car is owned by another family member?

Just for the benefit of an overseas member.... do you guys in the US have to licence (tax) & insure all the vehicles you own?
Or is it legal to move the same licence plate from car to car?

Here in the UK, if I had a car collection like that I would have to pay the annual licence fee, and insure every single one of them... The registration number is printed on the tax disc, so it cannot be used on another car.

And since a recent law was passed, this is also true if the car is taken off the public road - unless this has been officially reported to the authorities

Perfect example my friend, thank you... but why did you have several of each?

Yes we have to register, insure, license, etc., every vehicle you plan to take on the road, no switching of plates. If you aren't driving the car then you don't need any of this, except insurance if you prefer storage insurance. If the car is a collector vehicle, a third car or some other situation where it is driver rarely, you do have the option of purchasing specialty insurance with limits on mileage and storage location but it is cheaper (Hagerty & Grundy come to mind). I remember when I was growing up my family had 9 or 10 vehicles between five people and all were road ready. It's much more of an American custom perhaps considering the relatively lower cost of cars, fuel, car ownership as a whole, and the fact that most Americans have a license and their own vehicle by the time they are 15 or 16.

The right of individual States is valued here and written into our Constitution so most laws covering automobile registration & licensing are left to each state to decide, so it does vary a bit.
