Air getting into fuel system 1983 300SD

I have a 1983 300SD. I have a problem with air somehow getting drawn into the fuel line which prevent it from starting. I can get the car started by loosening the bolt on top of the fuel filter cannister, pumping the hand primer pump, and cranking the engine a few times which bleeds the air out of the lines. The car runs fine after that and will restart. But if if I let the car sit over night, air gets into the fuel system and won't start. I have replaced the hand primer pump and the fuel filters are not that old. Any suggetions on what might be causing the problem?
thanks for reading,
Mark

Hey Mark, you are describing my exact problem, i have replaced the primer pump as well, with no avail to solving the problem, car runs fine at med rpm's, (75mph) but when i try to get it to idle, it soon begins choking it seems on air, prefilter has a bit of air but i thought that was normal....? as long as i bleed it before starting, it runs fine. Did you fine any solution? I would appreciate some advice.
