CLK 320 New Owner Need to trouble shoot battery drain

Hi all, new to the site and first time MB owner and Ex-Caddy owner.

I purchased my 99 CLK 320 with 68K mile on it, I flew to Miami to pick it up and drove it 1400 miles back to Michigan with one problem. As soon I fueled up in Michigan the battery died in just few minutes.

I was able to jump it and get it home, overnight I put the charge on it and the battery did not hold the charge, had to jump it with the battery charger.

Questions? Could this just be a battery issue? I did not have any of the issues during fueling on the way home, I stopped and turned the car off 6 times with no issues.

Anything to keep in mind while owning this car?

Try taking the battery to advance auto and getting it tested. That is the easiest thing to try before you get to taking things apart.

Ditto to testing the battery. As far as things to keep in mind, check the W208 section found in the coupes/convertible section.

I'm just going to replace the battery since it did not hold a charge overnight. Anything to keep in mind while swapping it out?

Don't just replace with what's in there (if it's an aftermarket battery) as many people replace OEM with substandard batteries, but be sure to match to what the car's manual requires. MB's tend to be very power hungry cars and even a brand new, but incorrect, battery has the potential to cause mysterious issues around the various systems.
Also, not sure if the CLK has the vented battery but if so, make sure you connect the vent tube to the battery or the trunk could fill with explosive gasses.

As I have just learned, the battery currently in there has allot lower cranking amps then what should be in there, it currently has 875@32 degrees and 700@0 degrees. Maybe that's why when I hit the 30 degree colder weather it would not crank over.

Also, the guys I deal with is going to do the install, this thread seemed to be very useful

Replaced the battery and all seems to be working now, the new battery fits the tray as well as using the clamp down.

If this one drains, I will bring the thread back up, but the car seems to be in order.

now to the next issue........
