Buying used Mercedes from another state

I am in the process of buying a used Mercedes from another state from an individual. I will have the car inspected to my satisfaction and I will have the title checked. I will send money to the seller. Any recommendations/ideas to protect myself for this purchase will be appreciated.Thank you,Joe.

How much money are you willing to lose?

I did this several years ago and was willing to do the two-day drive back with the car.

IMHO, your best bet is to fly there and close the transaction personally and either drive it back or see it loaded on a transporter. If that's not feasible, you need a proxy, such as an attorney there, to close the transaction and take legal possession. Or if you know someone there you can trust, perhaps the people who handle the inspection?

Another possibility is if you bank with a national bank and they have a branch there, speak to the manager at your branch and see if they can handle the paperwork end of it so that you're at least assured of getting the title signed over. Transporting it is, of course, a different issue.

Good luck.

Walk away from the deal. Don't look back.

Should you be able to pay through a physical person acting on your behalf, you might arrange the seller to accept your sending a carrier to pick up the car with freight payable on delivery, or having your agent pick it up and take it to the shipper once the sale is final.

Tools there are as many as roads, it's a matter of getting involved to do it.

A car would show appreciation for preventive maintenance by never leaving his owner stranded.

I last decade I bought 8 used MB and only last year purchase -87 300dt for my son was bought in California.
Mercedes are the best cars to buy without seeing (didn't try RR yet) but they are dishonest people there. I always fly with CASH IN HAND. Our present drive was 2300 miles from home. Air tickets at the time were just above $100, so we flew with wife and made small vacations driving back. Nice surprise was discovering John Deere museum on the way. You know THE John Deere died about 100 years before tractor was invented?
