Where is the New E Class usually Manufactured (Right Hand Drive)

I lived in Thailand, there's an increasing market of parallel importer of the New E Class Mercedes Benz into the market. I am start wondering where these cars are manufactured and how come the prices and options are much more attractive than from the dealers locally.

You have a RHD Mercedes E-Class in the US?

Whille that's doubtful, the E-Class are from Sindelfigen, India, Thailand.

No, left hand drive, sorry that I wasn't clear. Mine came from the Sindelfingen in Germany, just outside of Stuttgart. specifically:

Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen Plant
Bela - Barenyi - Strabe
71063 Sindelfingen
Germany

Here's a link for a video of 2011 E's being assembled in Sindelfingen

Daimler and Mercedes have greatly expanded production facilities to be closer to their markets. The investments in Asia are huge, but clearly you have to go where the customers are in todays economy. There will always be a segment of owners that will want their German brand cars built in Germany, economic reality will make that increasingly impractical . . . and unnecessary.

I have to wonder if there is a quality difference between the same cars built in different plants, other countries? Are these really the same cars? Same engines? Same appointments? Same safety and convenience features?

I have to admit I like having a Mercedes Benz built at a plant in Germany by Germans.

Quality control does not appear to be a problem; Mercedes buyers would certainly let the company know if it were. The Alabama plant went through growing pains with a new plant and new chassis, but they have proven their capabilities and will be building the new C-Class. The South African plant's experience with the C-Class is also exemplary.

It's going to take awhile for the "must be built in Germany by Germans" prejudice to give way to reality . . .

I understand, and the engineer in me fully agrees. But the consumer in me (and this is only a comparison) wouldn't be that anxious to buy a Rolex built in Taiwan.

On a side note, A nice gold Rolex can bring $30k---unless it's a Rolex with a "Made In India" stamp.

Just a thought.

Irrational prejudice is what it is, emotional and not particularly fact based, and even more so when applied to "luxury" goods, where ego and status are likely equal to the other qualities of the product. There are certain organic or handcrafted luxe items that do benefit from local artisan production, but production vehicles are really not in that class.
