Post 1993 190e Wierd Brake squeel and strange lights

I just purchased my first Benz ever, it's a 1993 190 e in pretty good shape, funny thing is when i brake a get a wierd squeeley rattle that sounds like its coming from under the dash, any ideas, on cause.
2nd, I replaced the headlight bulbs, and the high / low beanm does not change when you move lever forward or back, but if you pull it towards you to kinda pulse the lights the high beams come on, strange any thoughts pls do get back to me if you have any info

Thanks

Oh and Ps, the car in the photo is not mine lol, I wish lol

Sounds like your brake pads are bad.

Did the lights work before you replaced them?

On W202s the combination switch that controls the high beams can cause problems like you are describing. Having said that, once I thought my lights were broken, and it turned out that I had my fogs on so the brights wouldn't stay illuminated, only light if I pulled the stalk back. Can you verify that the rotary switch isn;t on any other settings, such as pulled out once or twice for front or rear fogs (not sure the 190 is setup the same however). There is a forum here specific to the W201, your vehicle designation. They can maybe help more.

Do a search in the w201 forum, there have been a few threads with switch problems as you are describing.

Do the turn signals and windshield wipers still work? It sounds like you have a bad switch to me. Cleaning the contacts might be able to help though.

Just found out on my w201 that, as stated above for, when you have the fog lights on, you can't use the high beams in the locked forward position, but can pull the lever back to flash.

Are you sure you don't have the fog lights on?
Maybe a PO messed with your wiring on the rotary swith, have you looked at that?
