scared to pass

I have a 1987 300TD. When I'm doing highway speeds, and need to pass someone, I have to allow a long shot of road to get around someone. I did a purge of my pump, and put in a new primary and secondary fuel filter, but it runs the same. Any thoughts?

Are the injectors original? Fuel clean?

Try doing a search for other options in the w124 forum.

I remember the engine is about 130 HP rated. Don't know factory data, but I would expect it to make 0 to 60 in about 12 seconds or less. What is your time?

I would suspect skewed injection pump timing due to timing chain stretch if you have a high milage car that has an older timing chain. I'm not sure if 87's have an ALDA (like on the OM617), but the lines coming from it can become clogged and will limit boost. It results in loss of power and having to really put your foot down to get the car moving, especially from a standstill.

I had the timing chain stretch issue on my old 78 300D and after I adjusted the IP timing (and the valve clearance, your car has hydraulic lifters so it's not an issue) I was shocked at the improvement. A turbo diesel should have no problem passing at speed, they're just a little slow under 30mph...
