Help Needed in Austin

Hey,

I am in the middle of a road trip from San Diego to Maryland in my 1980 240d. I am currently in Austin, Texas for SXSW to see some friends/music.

Yesterday some clunking started to come from the rearend. I stopped at some small town and found someone with the right tools to check the fluid in the rear diff. It was a little low, but not enough to be concerned. We topped it off, and pushed on, but the noise came back, the best way two describe it, it sounds like a rod knock in a gas engine (its not the engine) and the whole rearend starts to vibrate. If you stop to and let it cool down, it is fine, but comes back in a half hour/20 miles. The diff was getting really hot to the touch. It is covered in years of oil/grime.

I am unsure if this is a u joint/rear issue. I had a feeling it may be one of the rear calipers sticking, and this morning I saw a little fluid under the right rear caliper. It looks like its from the hard line that runs from the caliper up into the frame. How do I access this by the way?

Is anyone in Austin have a space/tools? I don't have a lot of money to pay someone for the work, and I am mechanically inclined.
