my project

I just wanted to say hello, and thank you for a great site! Work has been slow, so over the last couple weeks I've been working for a friend on a '73 450 SL convertible. The last time it was licensed to drive was '01. I've been going to the internet frequently for information, and more frequently than not, I find the information I need here at BenzWorld!
The list of things needing fixing has been extensive. I've been trying, as much as possible, to put things back to original, but this would not pass for and all original car. I believe that at one time there was an alarm system installed, but somebody chopped that out, leaving a mess of wiring to figure out. The oil line to the dash broke during the process, the rear window and convertible top seals leaked ruining the interior. the passenger window regulator was broken, due to maladjustment. I redesigned the broken part and now it works beautifully! Sorry I didn't think to take pics. at the time. The lighting needed connectors cleaned and bulbs changed. I gave up on making the rotary switch do anything when turned to the left. We don't use those features in the States anyhow. When I finally got it to fire up the throttle linkage was gummy and needed a good cleaning up. Mechanically I'm pretty close to done. Would like to figure out the vac operated door locks. Need to replace the soft top, and think the auto trans could a flush and filter.
You guys have been a great resource! thanks a lot!

Welcome Bill!! I hope you will find the information you are looking for on this board. Post up some pics of the car showing its current state as well as what you and your friend have been able to repair. I like seeing restoration projects as they progress along.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll try to attach a few pics of the project. Sorry about the cell phone quality images. As near as I can tell, it's mostly stock with the following exceptions; e-code lights, later model chrome wheels, the cruise control has been half removed. I would like to get that working, but the cruise stalk, switch, amplifier, and harness are all missing. Short of finding a w107 at the wrecking yard with the parts, I'm afraid it's not going to be in the cards.
